About Us
Playful People Productions began in March of 2010 to provide a quality, caring environment in which children, youth and their families could have positive theatre experiences, while being involved in the many aspects of on-stage/ back-stage theatre. We realized that there was not one group that did beginning through advanced theatre for the whole family. We also felt we had a great program to outreach into communities that might not have had the chance to participate in such programs.
Playful People Productions grew from previous experiences with after-school programs, which soon expanded beyond the capabilities of the schools. The founders wanted to expand the program to include classes, summer stock/camps and a place for families and children ages 3 to 93 to particapate in a safe and fun environment.
In each of these programs we have been involved in, we have provided scholarships to people unable to pay the tuition fee. In the past 15 months we have provided over $3,000 worth of scholarships. Playful People Productions is run by a mother-daughter team, Barbara Galiotto and Katie D' Arcey, who between them have approximately 50 years experience in the musical theatre world. Both are Positive Discipline trained and worked as early Childhood Educators as well as in the theatre in the past. Both have worked as professional directors with children's theatre for many years.
For each project we employ professional designers, artists, choreographers and directors to guide our students. We also hire experienced college and high school students to do jobs in the production such as directors, stage managers, lighting, make-up, and set designers, choreographers and assistants. This allows students to gain important work experiences in all aspects of production in theatre. The goals of Playful People Productions are to provide the communities of San Jose and outlying areas with a variety of performing opportunities for children, youth and families to experience. To continue developing a program which supports the community it serves. Playful People Productions will challenge young people in the community, provide a safe, caring environment, and involve parents in a wholesome, well-rounded activity. We will serve as mentors to a varied community of young people and their families. We will outreach to schools and other community organizations. We believe that a good theatre experience will greatly improve the lives of the children, youth and families in our community.
